Calling All Players
As a community orchestra, Sage City Symphony welcomes new players, particularly violinists, violists, and cellists, who share a love for the orchestral repertoire. Sage City usually has 45 to 55 players from nearby Bennington and Shaftsbury as well as northern Berkshire County in Massachusetts and the Albany area in New York State.
No audition is required, but musicians should be able to play works of moderate difficulty.
Rehearsals are held in Greenwall
Auditorium in the VAPA building at Bennington College on Sunday evenings,
6:00-8:45 PM or a nearby venue if there is a conflict. The fall performance
occurs before Thanksgiving and rehearsals start in September. Late
winter/spring performances include a chamber program, a youth/children's
concert and a final spring concert that is coupled with the Symphony's
annual dinner. Rehearsals
for that portion of our season start in late January/early February
and the final concert is held before Memorial Day. Concerts are on
Sunday afternoons at four o'clock. Rides
or carpooling may also be available from your area.
The fall program is generally focused on a major work. This has included works such as Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and Henry Brant's casting of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (four movements) for an orchestral presentation. The Symphony commissions and performs one new work each season.
The Symphony manager, Gail Smith, can be contacted at 802-447-2149 or by Email.
