Sage City Symphony was started in 1972 as a community/college orchestra
with close ties to Bennington College. Since then it has become primarily
a community orchestra which draws players from three states. The Symphony
endeavors to present programs that are beyond the usual ambition of
community orchestras as well as present a challenging playing opportunity
to area musicians. The orchestra attracts a high calibre of amateur as well as professional
musicians without the requirement of auditions. Click here for more information
on joining the orchestra .
The Symphony plays both the traditional repertoire and contemporary
music, as well as commissioning and premiering new pieces each season.
Much of the music is rented, but the Symphony also owns a library of
traditional works such as overtures and major symphonies and commissioned
works. Work is presently being done to create a database of the library
holdings for exchange with other performing groups.
Sage City Symphony is entirely supported by donations, grants and sales of branded items.
There is no admission for our performances other than good will donations. We are grateful to
Bennington College in North Bennington, Vermont for space for our rehearsals, concerts and
annual dinner.
The Symphony is managed by a volunteer Board made up of long time community
supporters and players. Sage City Symphony is a registered nonprofit organization.
